In the Firefly episode 8 ‘Out of gas’, it was mostly focusing on Mal. In the first part of the episode, Mal was injured and looked painful. The second part of the episode showed why Mal got injured. However, I am going to write about the first part first, then the second part which are both flashback of Mal. The first part of the episode was about Mal buying Serenity. It seemed like Mal got fall in love with Serenity. While this is a flashback, I could not know when did this happen. Also, I was curious about where did Mal get the money to buy Serenity. I could think that Mal was a rich who can buy what he wants from the beginning. Then, there was a scene which Mal was hiring the crew. It was the time when Mal met with the crew members. They were kind of fresh to me which is better than the crew members now. The second part is when the crew members were celebrating Simon’s birthday. There was an explosion in the engine room. While they wer having difficulties to figure out the problem, Mal decided everyone except himself to leave the ship. Then Mal waited for help for a long time. When the other ship came, they shoot Mal and tried to steal things from Serenity. However, although Mal got injured, he pulled the gun and made others to leave the shuttle without stealing anything from him. Then, it was the part that Mal got injured and stayed alone in the ship which was the very fist part of the episode. I was impressed by Mal that he thought about his crew for the first place and tried to protect them. If I was Mal, it would be hard to leave alone in the dangerous place.

Blog 6

After discussing about ‘The Trainjob’ in today’s class, I realized that even the crew is the thief, we can call them a “goo thief”. In the episode, after the crew realized that the cargo is a medicine, Mal decided to return the medicine and the money. I was curious about why Mal tries to return it even they are thieves. What I thought about the thief is stealing stuff from someone else and use them for their good. I never expected about giving back to the owner that they already stole. Even there was an argue between the crew members about giving it back or not, I could see that they are not as bad people as I thought. We can say while thieves are stealing something, they might not be good people. However , in this episode, it tries to tell us that although thieves are the bad guys, they are some thieves who have right to choose what is right and what is wrong.
Also, there was a curious part in this episode which is about Zoe. In the ‘Trainjob’, there was an arguing between Malcolm and the crew members. And Zoe, who is second in command, followed Malcolm’s decision. In this episode, Zoe seems to be following Malcolm whatever he does. We can say that while Mal is the first in command and he can decide what the crew needs to do. However, there should be a time when Mal’s decision is wrong and the crew needs to follow it. Then while Zoe is a second in command, she needs to tell Mal what is a correct thing to do. So, I think Zoe needs to think about what is right rather than what Malcolm decides to help the crew to go a right way.

Blog 5

The firefly episode 10, The War Stories, showed well how cruel war is through torture. When social group tries to gain top secret information from someone, they use extreme way. It is called a torture. Torture has been used in the human history. However, extreme way can be watched as infringement upon personal right since modern period began. Over time, the way of torture became serious. It is why nowadays people criticize torture. Undoubtedly, this drama episode showed two ways of torture. One is whipping and the other is electricity torture. The characters who are tortured showed painful state. People who were tortured will suffer same symptom after torturing. Although it was only episode, it proved that how torture is cruel. Especially, electricity torture means that development of torture. If it is still existing, human cannot live peaceful life.
Eventually, war made this entire problem like torture. It means that war leads people to weak and wrong ways. As a result, both of them which are assaulter and victim have trouble. The episode, War Stories warned human who live today. Many people are enjoying peaceful life today. However, some of people are still suffering pain of war and dictatorship. For example, people in North Korea still try to escape because of starving. If they fail to escape, they will be tortured extremely and sent to great prison. However, they are still escaping despite this danger. Confucius who was scholar of ancient China said that war and dictatorship are more frightening than tiger. Like this, freedom and peace are most precious than anything.

Blog 4

I watched the Firefly episode 7 ‘The Jaynestown’. I thought that this episode was really interesting. Even I didn’t watch the early episoede of the series, I could understand this episode by itself. This episode took place in the town where the mud company runs it. When the crew arrived in the town, they have to find their contact and finish the deal. What the crew had to do in the town was to get some stuff illegally. When Malcolm and his crew arrived at the town, they saw a big statue of Jayne who lived in Jaynestown few years ago. This was the most interesting part in this episode for me. The scene that the crew saw the statue and frightend was very funny to me. Also, the people in the bar are even singing about Jayne’s heroic performance. The whole town is about Jayne and that was kind of funny scene. After the people heard about Jayne’s return, they were so happy. On th Jayne day, which frightned me of how the city loves Jayne, Jayne gave some speech to the people in town and they were happy to hear some words from Jayne. Ane the other members moved the cargo during Jayne’s speech. The time when Jayne broke his statue and told people to live their own life gave me an impression. Then they left with finishing their deal. In this episode, there were no serious situation. However, it was the most interesting episode so far. I would like to recommend this episode to people who saw the other episodes of Firefly and disappointed. They would not get dissapointed if they watch this episode.

The Train Job

When I watch Firefly Episode 2 'The Train Job' I thought that the Firefly was kind of interesting SF Drama. The most interesting facet was when Malcom fought with the guy who called Malcom a coward. Malcom did not afraid of a strong guy when he neglect Malcom. Then Malcom and his friends fought with the people in the bar. After I watched this scene, I thought Malcom was a great guy who do not afraid of people who are stronger than him. Even there were many scenes that was interesting, but this scene was most impressive.
